History

Description

ಹುಲಿಮೇವ್ ಟೆಂಪಲ್ (Hulimev Cave Temple) is a strange Hinduist temple, which was built into a rather low but very wide and long sandstone cave. Its unclear how much of the cave is natural and how much is artificial, but it seems it is actually mostly natural, with some alterations, otherwise the ceiling would be higher. Quite special is the fact that the cave temple is located in the middle of the huge city Bengaluru. This is not a tourist site, its a church which is frequented by religious locals, and that's how you should visit the site. Be respectful, take off your shoes, behave. On the other hand the site is open every day and there is no entrance fee, donations are welcome. Avoid religious Holidays though.

The temple is called Ram Lingareshwar Temple or Ramalingeshwara Temple, as there are Shree Ram Parivar deity on one side and Shiva Linga on another. They tell that the temple is 500 years old, while the cave is 2000 years old, which is complete nonsense. We guess the cave was used as temple for 2000 years, and is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva since 500 years, the rest is lost in translation. The temple is managed by the Sri Sri Bala Gangadaraswami Mutt.
