The Lamgao Caves or Lamgau Caves are located in North Goa in the village of Lamgao, hence the name. From the northern end a road leads to a temple, where it ends. From here its a 200m (10 minutes) footwalk to the northeast, to the caves. The caves are quite exceptional, as they were dug into decomposed laterite which is quite brittle. The material is not very suitable for cave, it is soft so they are dug easily, but they tend to erode rather fast and probably collapse. Caves in such soft unconsolidated sediments are called earth caves.
The caves have been dedicated to Lord Shiva. They are much younger than the other caves in the state.
