History

Description

Ddieri di Baulì (Cave Houses of Bauli) are actually three different sets of cave houses in the Cava di Baulì (Bauli gorge). The location we have given is of the Ddieri Grandi (Big Cave Houses). Further down the gorge are the Ddieri Piccoli (Small Cave Houses) and across the gorge are the Ddieri dell'Eremita (Hermits Caves). All are connected by trail. We strongly recommend the OSM Map for navigation.

The site is an archaeological site and protected as a Historic Monument. Nevertheless, it is almost not developed and freely accessible. And it has some fame, at least among the locals. Tourists often avoid the hike. And as it is not signposted, it requires a little preparation. But the trail to the caves is listed on most hiking portals, so it's quite easy to get there.

If this is too wild, you may prefer a guided tour. There are guided trips offered for groups, prices vary with the number of participants, but typically it may cost € 40 per person. The tour is about 5 h long, including pick up and drop off.
