History

Description

Grottino del Campidoglio (Capitoline Grotto) is located below Capitol Hill in Rome. The structure is scheduled to open to the public in late 2026 or early 2027. 3,900 m² of tunnels once housed communities, shops and taverns. The first cellars existed even before the days of Julius Caesar, but were forgotten in recent generations. They were sealed by Mussolini in the 1920s. A part was reopened during World War II and served as air-raid shelters.

The site is at the moment being developed. They have funding of 2.3 Million Euro, so we are sure it will open soon. Unfortunately, at the moment we have neather a location nor a detailed description, so stay tuned. We will add updates as soon as we get them.
