Description

青龍窟 (Seiryûkutsu, Seiryu Cave) is the largest limestone cave in Hiraodai with a total length of about 3 km. The cave was the inner sanctuary of Fuchiyama Togaku-ji Temple, which was used as a training ground for Shugendo (mountain asceticism). According to legend Emperor Keiko killed a giant spider that lived in the cave. The legend of Princess Toyotama is also connected to the cave and there is an altar dedicated to the princess in the entrance hall.
