Phou Prasat is actually an ensmble of five different caves of different character. There are large numbers of bats, unbelievable limestone formations, and enormous passages. The caves are not developed, even for Laotian circumstances. They are visited on day tours which include four hours hike. Beneath the caves the trip shows the life of local Hmong tribe, including their famous hunting techniques. And at the mouth of the cave the participants are hosted by the villagers of Ta Louang village for a local Hmong meal.
The difficulty of the caves is different, so if you want to visit all you should take appropriate equipment with you. Minimum is for the hike good shoes, mosquito repellent, sunscreen and a hat. For the caves good shoes, clothes to change, and a torch or headlamp with additional batteries. Helmets are provided in the cave.
