The කූරගල ලෙන් ආරාම (Kuragala Cave Temple) is located on a sandstone hill which has a few small caves, which are the result of erosion. The Kuragala Cave is actually a shelter, formed by an overhanging cliff. It is about 6 m wide and about 2 m deep. The site is also a pre-historic archaeological site consisting of an early human settlement during the late Pleistocene period. The Buddhist Cave temple complex dates back to the 2nd century BC.
