Kunstarena Torbjørnsbu gruver (Artarena Torbjørnsbu mines) is a strange site, a former open cast mine with deep ravines which is crossed high above on wooden bridges. So it offers a great insight into an old open cast mine. The visit starts at the Visitor Center which has an exhibition room on the 3rd floor with access to the walkway through the mines. In this exhibition, the history of the mines is briefly reproduced in a timeline on the wall. They also offer a brochure named «Kunstarena Torbjørnsbu mines» which gives more detail. This Visitor Center is located in the Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall, a large art museum which is installed in the former mine buildings, hence the strange name of the mine.
Torbjørnsbu mines were the most important iron mines in Norway for several centuries.
