History

Description

The Grutas do Khodzue (Khodzue Cave) is actually called Khodzue Gorge, though both is inaccurate. The gorge like structure is a river cave with numerous parts of the cave ceiling collapsed, the result is a series of caves and gorges, caves sections with karstfensters and natural bridges. The site is quite spectacular and rather easy to visit, as the floor is mostly quite level. But there are numerous places with water and a little climbing might be necessary. All in all waterproof walking shoes are strongly recommended.

The site is a biodiversity hotspot and there are rare insects and amphibians, the site was explored by Bart Wursten in 2007. As far as we know the is Mozambique Outdoor Adventures in Beira, who offer tours to the site. Travelling alone in a country like Mozambique is obviously a bad idea, we strongly recommend hiring a tour operator who is able to handle all difficulties.
