Description

Пећина Равништарка or Pećina Ravništarka (Ravnistarka Cave) is a horizontal cave with a small cave river called Ponorac. It was named after nearby village Ravnište, which belongs to the basin of Kučajna river, the left tributary of the Pek river. The cave is a very young show cave opened to the public in 2007. On top of the plateau above the cave a visitor center with restaurant and souvenir shop was built. From here visitors descend to the cave entrance below.

The huge 12 m wide entrance leads to a single room named Црни Дворац or Crni Dvorac (Black Castle). This part of the cave was known to the locals for a very long time In 1894 it was visited by the famous Serbian geographer and scientist Jovan Cvijić. At this time the cave had a length of 80 m.

Two curious and daring village boys explored the cave from the beginning to end. Looking into any opening, they found a formerly unknown passage, which is almost 600 m long, in 1980. The cave was named Савина пећина (Sava's Cave) and was surveyed by speleologists. The passage is rather huge, but has no chambers. It is very well decorated with speleothems.

It is a river cave, and there are few stalagmites in the passage, but there are rimstone pools and lakes with calcite covers. The Devičanski kladenac is a spring located in the Леопардов канал (Leopard Channel), which is intermittend, it produces water only during snowmelt. But when it is active, the water gushes under high pressure vertically through a narrow crack and hisses. The pressure of the water is often high enough to reach the ceiling. The Душанове галерије (Dušan's galleries), the last section of the passage, was named after Dušan Nedeljković, the man responsible for the construction of roads and the other infrastructure, which made the Ceremošnja and Ravništarka caves accessible to visitors.
