ถ้ำเขาจังโหลน (Khao Chang Lon Cave) is located on the grounds of the Wat Chang Lon temple in Tambon Khuha Tai. The karst tower has a length of 1.5 km and a width of 700 m, it is oriented northeast to southwest. The plain is about 20 m asl, whicle the toer reaches a height of more than 200 m asl. The tempel is located on the southeastern side of the tower.
Actually there are two cave, the smaller cave is a cave temople and reach on a long stone staircase. Inside the cave the floor is paved, and there are numerous statues, golden buddhas The Khao Chang Lon Cave is also rather easily accessible from the temple, there is a trail which winds up the hillside to the huge cave portal. The tropical climate causes a fast growth of the vegetation, and so the trail is sometimes a little overgrown. The portal is huge and there are massive stalactites on the cave ceiling. The floor inside is more or less level, but there are huge blocks which fell from the ceiling. And there are several massive stalagmite formations: While this is not a cave temple, there are nevertheless several statues and altars. A huge golden buddha statue sits on a huge pile of rocks. The othe statues look rather weird, even the buddha statues haf rather long and strange faces. And there are statues which look more like immortals from Chinese legends. The high passage is almost a cave ruin, the ceiling already has numerous openings, and the whole cave is brightly lit by daylight.
This is a temple, so please behave respectful and wear appropriate clothes. While there are no actual open hours, it’s best to visit during daylight hours though. There is no fee but donations are welcome. For the exploration of the upper cave good walking shoes, long trousers and a lamp are strongly recommended.
