23-DEC-2010 | Tham Pla–Namtok Pha Suea National Park established. |
ถ้ำผาแดง (Tham Pha Daeng) is a semi wild cave which is protected by the Tham Pla–Namtok Pha Suea National Park. It is located on the other side of the valley from the famous Tham Pla (Fish Cave). Fortunately, this cave does not get much of the popularity of the cave temple, which is only 700 m away, otherwise it would quickly be badly damaged. The cave is open for visits, but lacks any development except a dirt trail created by the visitors. The passage is big and horizontal, so there is no need for crawling or getting dirty, nevertheless good shoes, a lamp, and if you have helmet with headlamp are a good idea. On the other hand it is a river cave which is quite dangerous, keep the weather forecast in mind when entering. You know from the news what happens in river caves in Thailand after heavy rains.
This is actually a wild cave, any visit is cave trekking, we are not happy that such a cave is published as a tourist attraction. The only thing we can do, is adding the warning: be careful when exploring river caves, make sure you follow all the caving rules! In case of an accident there is nobody looking after you, and it may take rather long until the next visitor will find you.
