History

Description

หุบป่าตาด (Tham Hup Pa Tat, Huppatat) is despite the name not really a cave. The huge karst cave is mostly collapsed, and forms two huge dolines with lush rainforest inside. It is reached through a 60 m long remaining part of the cave. There are trails through the doline. At the far end of the first doline another short cave leads to te second doline. This cave contains a huge pilar, which is quite spectacular.

The cooler and more humid microclimate is the reason for a abundance of rare trees and ferns. There are also exceptional mushrooms in the valley. And there are also numerous rare animals like the “pink dragon millipede”. This is the reason why the place is often called Jurassic Park Cave by the locals, after the homonymous movie.

The karst tower is located in a rural area in the fertile plain west of the province capital Uthai Thani. The whole tower is riddled with caves, numerous are used as cave temples. 500 m to the north of the entrance is the วัดถ้ำทอง (Wạd t̄ĥả thxng, Wat Tham Thong). 500 m to the south is ถ้ำลมรัตนคูหา (T̄ĥả lm rạtn khūh̄ā, Lom Rattana Khuha Cave), which opens directly on the road.
