Gedelme Mağarası (Gedelme Cave) is named after the village Gedelme Yaylası where it is located. It is actually located in the middle of the village, south of the Byzantine castle ruins. It is also known as Peynirdeliği Mağarası (Cheesemaking Cave), the origin of this name is obvious. While this cave is developed as a show cave with trails and staircases, it is freely accessible, there is no entrance fee and no gate. It even has electric light, which was installed rather recently. As the cave is freely accessible, we are not sure if it is always on, activated by the visitors, or activated only for special groups. We recommend bringing your own lamp, just to be safe. Quite spectacular is a deep trench in one chamber, which is crossed on a metal bridge.
The entrance is a collapse doline, a stone staircase leads down into the cave. This entrance is a cold trap, so this cave is much cooler than other caves in this area. Also, it seems the temperature changes over the year.
The doline with the entrance is surrounded by a stone wall. In this wall is an iron gate in a sort of archway. This archway has a special form, which has become the sign of the cave.
