| 1960s | people relocating to the cities left their houses abandoned and decay started. |
| 1990s | Jacques Avizou visits the city and realizes the enormous potential. |
Les Maisons de Cappadoce is French as this ensemble was actually created in the 1990’s by an award-winning French architect. Jacques Avizou visited the city and realized the enormous potential. Over 20 years he bought 20 houses and renovated them working with local residents teaching restoration techniques and his own professional standards. They have hotel rooms in caves as well as on the surface, also the restaurant is located in a large cave chamber which is big enough for functions.
