Description

The Needle's Eye is a natural bridge, or actually a hole in a mountain. The location of this cave ruin is exceptional, the mountain actually looks like a needle with the cave forming the needle's eye, hence the name. This is actually a sight which is best visited from far away, so there are neither open hours not enrance fees. The only relevant parameters are the weather and the physical fitness, as the location is far from the next road and it requires some walking to get there.

There are numerous kinds of holes in rocks which can be found in any kind of rock. This one is actualy a karst feature, as it is the last remains of a karst cave, a short through cave. The cave was eroded together with the surrounding rock, but a small branch remains in this limestone rock. As both sides are missing, the remaining section of the cave is a sort of tube of constant diameter, which could never have formed at this location.
