The Dahlonega Courthouse Gold Museum gives some insight into the gold mining history of the towns of Auraria and Dahlonega. A 23-minute film describes the mining techniques and lifestyles. A mineral exhibition shows local nuggets of up to 5 ounces.
The exhibition also explains the history of the U.S. Branch Mint in Dahlonega. It coined more than $6 million in gold between 1838 and 1861.
