Description

Hopemore Mine is located in the Leadville mining district east of the city. It is owned by the miner and locksmith Bob Calder, who opened the mine as a show mine in spring 2009. The road up to the mine, off County Road 1 (Fifth Street), is not plowed, so this mine is only open during summer and weather permitting. The mine has a head frame and the mine cage brings the visitors to a depth of 150 m. The tour focuses on mining safety education, mining heritage, environmental awareness, and preservation.

As the mine is open only during summer, there are now and then visitors who arrive at closed doors. It seems the visitor center at Leadville told them that the mine was closed for some years. Actually we could not find out if it is closed, but we found a website which advertises reopening this summer [2023]. As we only have a phone number you should probably phone ahead.
