Động Kim Quy (Kim Quy Cave, Golden Turtle Cave, Golden Tortoise Cave) is named after a rather ugly stalagmite, which resembles somewhat a turtle. It is brownish, not golden, but who cares? Again one of the dozen show caves with trails, no guides, coloured light and fancy names for speleothems.
The Golden Turtle was helping Emperor Lê Loi defeat his enemies, by lending him a magic sword. Then the Golden Turtle took back the magic sword and swam towards the sea. But when it reached Ha Long Bay, it met so many evil spirits and demons blocking its journey that it remained to do battle. After having defeated them all, the Golden Turtle was so exhausted that it searched for a grotto to rest in, and once inside, turned to stone.
This is one of the less popular caves as it is not on the route of mayor cruise operators. As a result, it can be visited with Halong bay private cruise only.
