History


Description

The Komati Gorge is a wide sandstone gorge eroded by the Komati River. The gorge is located in the Mpumalanga Province near the towns Carolina and Machadodorp. It is little developed, most of the gorge is wilderness. There is only a single lodge in the valley, from ehich it is possible to explore the groge on walks.

Komati Gorge is noted as a habtat for flora and fauna. And it is a greate geotope, as the cliffs show various interesting formations, like Archaengreenstones of the Kromberg and Hooggenoeg formation. It has many colourfull minerals, black and white banded cherts, basalt flows, and even a banded ironformation.
