Spitzenbachklamm is also called valley of the butterflies. The special thing with this gorge is that it runs from the south to the nort. The result is that the sun shines in most of the day, which is quite exceptional for a gorge. And as the gorge wall prevent winds, the warmth stays inside, so the micro climate is quite warm. The result is that this place offers ideal living conditions for 700 different species of butterflies. There are high altitude plants next to thermophilic (warmth loving) plants and the caterpillars have an abundance of food. So this place is an El Dorado for botanists, geologists and butterfly lovers. The best time for a visit is in early summer.
