São Paulo is definitely a cave state. Numerous caves are found here, 425 are listed in the cave register. The biggest cave is Gruta da Tapagem at Eldorado, which is 6,237m long and has a vertical range of 175m. Most impressive is the entrance of Gruta Casa de Pedra, which is 215m high and is the highest cave entrance of the world.
The caves are located in the Ribeira river valley region. There are caves around the Higher Ribeira (Petar), Jacupiranga and Intervales.
