History

Description

瑞峯寺 (ruì fēng sì, Rui Peak Temple) is a huge Buddhist temple which was built on the Ruifeng mountain. The mountain is part of the Yaolong mountain range, and so it is also called the 堯龍山寺 (Yáo lóng shānsì, Yaolong Mountain Temple). To reach the temple its necessary to drive a narrow winding road to the end. From the car park it is a long ascent on stone staircases. The mountain has green slopes and a sort of rock tower on the top with a plateau. The vertical walls seem to have numerous caves at the foot, which were used to build cave temples inside. The buildings of the monastery were built in front of the cliff on the steep slope. The monastery is located on the northern side of the mountain.

The monastery is a living monastery, there are still monks which maintain the site. Currently, some renovations are going on. As always with temples and churches, they are freely accessible during daylight and there is no fee. Prayers, donations, and incense sticks are voluntary, decent behaviour and respect for the religious beliefs are mandatory.
