History


Description

月洞 (Yuedong, Moon Cave) is a river cave and resurgence. The water level is said to rise and fall with the moon's rise and fall, so the spring was called Moon Well and the cave accordingly Moon Cave. The spring is located only 800 m from the sea, about 80 m asl. The water filled passage is 176 m, and the entrances of triangular shape and about 25 m high. The cave is toured by boat, starting from the jetty at the cave entrance. The boat is pulled by the guide, and the light is also mounted on the boat. The cave is rather warm, so no special clothes are needed, but to enter and leave the boat safely sensible shoes are recommended.

The cave is home to many bats, normally during the tours numerous bats can be seen on the walls. The cave river is home to eels, the biggest is estimated to weigh 10 kg and is called millennium eel.
