History

1938 built as part of the so-called ‘Limes Programme’.

Description

Westwallmuseum Haustadt (Westwall Museum Haustadt) is located in a Gruppenunterstand (group shelter) and is therefore also called the Westwallmuseum Haustadt „Gruppenunterstand". Another name is Westwallbunker ‘Albert’, the bunker with the number 700 was christened Albert by the crew. The group shelter with attached fighting compartment is a Regelbau 10, one of the standardised bunker types for the Siegfried Line. This was the most widespread type of bunker, around 3,000 of them were built. It was intended for an infantry group of 15 men and served as a shelter for tank destroyers. The bunker was built in 1938 as part of the so-called ‘Limes Programme’. The special feature here is that it was built mirror-inverted due to the slope.

The renovation of the bunker and the establishment of the museum was a private initiative. The detective inspector Josef Recktenwald, a native of Haustadt who now lives in Siersburg, carried out the restoration work.
