1873 first description of the existence of dolines in the province of Cuenca published by Cortázar and Botella.
1901 monte Los Palancares declared Monte de Utilidad Pública.
2001 Torcas de Palancares and Tierra Muerta Natural Monument created.

Description

The Torcas de los Palancares (Palancares Sinkholes) are located in parque natural de la Serranía de Cuenca. This is a group of more than 30 huge dolines with a diameter around 200 m and a depth around 50 m. The largest is 400 m long and 250 m wide, the deepest around 90 m deep. They are located in a ridge of limestone hill, which are up to 1,300 m asl.
