The CNRS (National Center of Scientific Research aka Laboratoire Souterrain de Moulis) is a cave research institute with focus on cave biology. It has buildings and ground in Moulis, but much more important are two cave laboratories and seven cave stations, where various measurements are made.
This area is ideal for a speleological institute: nearly 250 cavities are known in a radius of 25 km around Moulis. One of the laboratories is located in the Grotte de Moulis, the other one in the Grotte de Aulignac, where cave olms are breeded.
