The lava caves of the lava field between Þingvellir and Laugarvatn are the destination of this cave trekking tour. During summer the Gjabakkahellir (BlueBerry Cave) in Þhingvellir National Park is visited. During winter, due to easier access Leidarendi cave in the Blue Mountains area is visited.
There are no trails in the caves, so it is necessary to walk on the rough cave floor with debris and sharp lava. But the tubes are generally almost horizontal and there are no climbs. The tour is not very difficult, but it requires old and warm clothes, good shoes, helmet, and lamps. Overall, gloves, helmet and headlamp are provided if necessary. This is a day trip which includes a lot of walking, the tour through the cave takes about four hours.
