大久保間歩 (Okubo Mabu Mine) is a two hour tour into a historic silver mine, the largest still existing mine tunnel of Iwami mines. The whole process is a little complicated, and includes a bus ride. It is necessary to book the ticket online od by phone at least 5 days in advance. Be at the Okubo Mabu Tour Desk in the Iwami Ginzan World Heritage Center at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time. Here you pay for the reserved ticket. The guide will start the introduction 20 minutes before departure. The tour requires walking, wear walking shoes, hat, long trousers and a jacket for the underground part.
The tour starts with a bus ride to a steep side valley. From here its a 750 m walk uphill through dense forest to the mine entrance. Beware of pit vipers and bees. The tour takes place in rainy weather, so a raincoat or umbrella and water resistant shoes are a good idea. Inside the mine no bags are allowed. Participants are equipped with helmets at the entrance.
