The Grutas de Coyame is famous for its mineral springs, which is bottled and sold. Located in an aride climate, the humidity of the cave gets lost through the entrances. To keep the humidity and temperature inside the cave stable, it is equipped with air-tight doors, which are only opened for the tours. The light is turned on section by section as the tour advances, and turned off behind. This is to reduce the light and warmth produced by the lamps.
The cave has troglobionts, tiny crickets, which have now vanished from the developed parts. They are, like all troglobionts, transparent and colorless, which is caused by the lack of light.
The cave is located in marine Cenozoic limestones, which contain various fossils of corals and ammonites.
