The Fatumea Cave Pool is a sweet water spring at the end of a lava tube named Piula Cave, hence it is also called Piula Cave Pool. The lava tube ends at the sea, but the erosion of the waves destroyed the lower end of the cave and formed a short valley, a sort of roofless cave. This is the location of the 25 m long and 11 m wide pool, which is only 12 m from the sea. It is located on the grounds of the Piula Theological College, which does its best to maintain the pool and its facilities. The water from the cave is cool, which is much appreciated by the visitors as being refreshing.
The pool is a very popular swimming pool, and it is often crowded in the afternoon. If you plan to swim you should come in the morning. The site has clean toilets and changing rooms, snacks are available for purchase. Bring a towel and bathing suit, it’s strictly forbidden to bathe nude. Its also isn’t allowed to dive or catch fishes in the pool. It is not possible to enter the cave without cave diving gear, though many visitors swim into the cave for a short distance, although that’s not allowed.
