Ekebols Grotta (Ekebol’s Cave) is despite the name not a cave at all. It actually resembles a traditional quarry, where a layer of rock is quarried and some pillars supporting the ceiling were left standing. But actually the place was built by the owner of the nearby Baldersnäs mansion in the early 1800s as a party venue. It was used for Midsummer celebrations and is still used for various events. It is also used for weddings. There are flat rocks on both ends which are sometimes called altars, though there is no religious background at all. It seems they are often decorated with icons, small stone figures and other things.
The cave is located at the hillside in the forest, about 75 m from Baldersnäsvägen. There is no good parking possibility and the sign to the cave is very small, so it is a little tricky to get there. They warn about falling rocks, which probably only serves to avoid any claims for damages. The danger of falling rocks, though obviously existing, is quite low.
