1956 | Moravian Karst declared a Protected Landscape Region. |
Dům přírody Moravského krasu (House of Nature of the Moravian Karst) is one of numerous museum which are called House of Nature. This museum is dedicated to the nature of a typical karst area. It is located in the Moravský kras, the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area, a remarkable area of white Devonian limestone, which has been karstified over millions of years. As a result the drainage of the area is mostly underground, about 125 m below the surface of the landscape. Brooks disappear into the rock when they reach the limestone, shaded karst canyons without a river cut through sunlit plains. At the southern end the rivers reappear from karst springs and river cavess, flow through the lower end of the canyons and soon leave the karstified area.
